The cookies we use. No beating around the bush.
Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device. This policy explains which ones we use, what for, for how long, and how you can control them — in compliance with Law no. 14/24 (Law on Electronic Communications and Information Society Services).
1. What cookies are (and what they are not)
Cookies are small text files that a website places in your browser when you visit it. They allow the site to "remember" you on subsequent visits — like keeping you logged in, or saving your theme preference.
Cookies are not programs, they cannot access files on your device, and they do not transmit viruses. They are just key→value text pairs.
We also use similar technologies — local storage, session storage and web beacons — which this policy also covers.
2. Types of cookies we use
2.1 Strictly necessary (essential)
They enable the basic functioning of the platform — authentication, security, load balancing. Without these, Mbongo simply does not work. These cookies do not require your prior consent, under art. 116 no. 2 of Law 14/24.
2.2 Functional
Store preferences you've chosen — theme (light/dark), language, interface density, primary currency, preferred sorting. They improve your experience but aren't strictly necessary. They require consent.
2.3 Analytics
They help us understand how users use the app — which screens they visit, how long they stay, where they get lost. This data is aggregated and anonymized — we can't identify you individually. They require consent.
2.4 Marketing / advertising
We don't use them. There are no advertising cookies on Mbongo. We don't do retargeting. We don't share data with advertising networks.

4. Third-party cookies
We use a small number of third-party services that may set cookies:
- Clerk (authentication) — essential session cookies. Policy at clerk.com/privacy.
- Cloudflare (security and CDN) — bot protection cookies. Policy at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
- Vercel (hosting) — does not use persistent user cookies.
We don't allow cookies from advertising networks (Google Ads, Meta Pixel, TikTok, etc.) or from social networks.
5. Consent
On your first visit, we show you a notice explaining the types of cookies we intend to set and ask for your consent. You have three options:
- Accept all — essential + functional + analytics.
- Accept only essential — only those strictly necessary.
- Customize — you choose category by category.
Your consent is saved for 6 months, after which we ask again. You can change your mind at any time in Settings → Privacy → Cookies, without needing to justify it and without losing essential functionality.
6. How to control (or block)
You're in full control. You can:
- On Mbongo: Settings → Privacy → Cookies. Turn categories on/off.
- In your browser: set it to refuse all cookies, or just third-party ones. Each browser has its own menu — below, shortcuts to the main ones.
- Private / incognito mode: most cookies expire when you close the window.
- Extensions: uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, etc. — they work fine with us.
How to block in your browser
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Site cookies and other site data.
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Cookies and website data.
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data.
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies.
7. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated to reflect changes in the cookies we use, legal changes, or transparency improvements. The current version is always the one published here. Material changes are communicated to you in the consent banner.
